For decades, we saw superheroes with enhanced abilities like telepathy, strength, mind control, lesser, super speed, etc in comics and different kinds of TV shows until now. With rapid advances in biotechnology and neuroscience scientists made an achievement by discovering brain implants, which can be able to turn normal people into real life superheroes.

What Are Brain Implant

Brain implants are more complex devices embedded directly into the brain. These devices are specifically designed to interface with records of neurons interrupted and stimulate the brain activities. Brain implants are controlled by the brain computer interference which is known as BCIs. This allows the brain to communicate directly with external devices like computers, prosthetics or even with other Brains. These can be as simple as electrode monitoring to complex devices like MRI and CT scan .

A golden example is Group Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk, who made a big achievement for mankind with their work on brain implants in early 2024. Neuralink announced that they had implanted a device that can be able to decode the brain neural signals which can also give output that neural signals into the BCIs. Also some other institutes like BrainGate and Synchron etc are also giving effort to develop interference technology.

These inventions are not only helpful for the neural decoding but are also useful in restoring lost function of the brain, depression, even disease like Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Epilepsy .

From Therapy To Enhancement

BCIs reported initially was developed for only medical use to treat diseases like Epilepsy, paralysis, depression, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, etc. But with the development of technology BCIs marks an exciting new chapter in human history. Now this can be used in Deep Brain stimulation (DPS). For instance ,now DBS helped in managing their symptoms for over a thousand people. However this same technology is now enhanced for cognitive and physical capabilities beyond the normal human ranges.

Just for science, imagine a sourgon having perfect memory, a student or a normal human being having a super brain who can download knowledge directly into their brain. Before this was introduced , it happened only in movies or in scenarios where, as well as the development of science, this could be possible in real life.

Making Of A Superhuman

On adding brain implants humans may be able to surpass their natural limitations, and possibly exceed the abilities of superheroes which are seen in frictional scenarios. Those abilities can be :-

  1. Telepathy: By using Brain computer interfaces (BCIs) individuals can interact with machines and also be able to control those machines using their thoughts . In the flow of time, these systems could evolve to support direct neural communication between individuals, potentially eliminating the need for verbal or written language altogether.
  2. Cognition: Now-a-days scientists are working together to develop brain implants which can surpass the brain mechanism for memory storage and its receiving capacity. By achieving these we can easily achieve new skills in other languages at extraordinary speed to perform revolutionary education and training.

Machine Control and Integrated Prosthetics

Like telepathy, BCIs can help us to control machines directly using our brain implants. The best use of it can be the paralyzed in the visual to manipulate robotic arms and legs to walk without any other supports or endoskeleton. When the technology improves it is easier for humans to integrate with the machines for safe future uses.

  1. Extra sensory: In the movies of Spider-Man he developed his 6th sense and can be able to know upcoming danger. Like this people can perceive beyond the normal human senses. This can be things such as knowing upcoming danger, heat seeking or detecting, infrared vision, hearing extraordinary sound frequency, smelling like dogs and cats etc.
  2. Mental Fortitude and Emotional Stability: Implants could one day help individuals manage emotional states, improve mental clarity, and enhance concentration characteristics often attributed to calm and collected heroes in extreme situations.

Moral And Community Enforces

As we know the possibilities of brain enhancement are exciting but it has raised serious problems for society as well as our communities.

  • Unfair towards normal people: By using the BCIs users are able to get super powers which give disadvantage towards the normal peoples. It results in a widening gap between normal people and enhanced people by reinforcing the community in equality and division.
  • Cognitive Privacy: With technology capable of accessing and transmitting thoughts, personal mental boundaries could be compromised. Unauthorized access to neural data or “mind hacking” could become a major issue.
  • Definition of Humanity: As enhancements become more complex, questions may arise about the very nature of human identity. At what point does technological integration alter a person’s humanity?
  • Risks of Cybersecurity: Like any digital system, neural implants could be lower security to hacking. By tampering with a person’s cognitive functions could have catastrophic consequences.

Technical Barriers To Overcome

This design which turns humans into super enhanced beings is far from simple, particularly because of the brain’s vast complexity. Several challenges still stand in the way:

  • Compatibility : If we use the BCIs for a long term it must be safe without causing any adverse immune response or physical harm.
  • Longevity: When we use these for the long term it must be effective and reliable for any essential implement to remain inside of the body.
  • Data Throughput: Transmitting large volumes of information to and from the brain remains limited by current interface speeds and processing capabilities.
  • Interaction using AI: When artificial intelligence becomes involved in brain signal processing, it is critical to know these systems operate morally and without any preference.

May Apply On Future

By overcoming these barriers, neurotechnology continues to move forward. As per the milestone achieved by the Neuralink successfully implanted device inside a human brain, allowing the individual to move a cursor by using the brain implant. Also some other institutes like Brain gate, Synchorn, etc are also giving effort to developing safer and more effective brain interference technology.

It is also being pursued by our government and defence agencies for research in this space. An example is the US defence research project agency which is known as DARPA is exploring different ways to improve their soldiers. Such efforts could eventually lead to battlefield advantages powered by brain based enhancements.
